| and now Deep Thoughts, by Jack Handy Good times, folks: I'm offically a Master in like, 5 months. So here's my issue: then what? *sigh* I've already decided not to apply in academia, so what are my options? Well, given my very expensive training, here are my options: theatre, film, tv, museums, or nothing at all related to any of this, like HS guidence counselor. :) Honestly, guidence counselor isn't sounding so bad right now. lol I'm feeling so very burned out on designing. Not in general, I mean, I still LOVE drawing or building or sculpting or sewing or whatever, but I'm SO OVER the paperwork and the politics and the meetings meetings meetings. There is something so incredibly appealing right now about a simple job where i can create something, help people, and make enough money for a cute little house and pizza on the weekends. lol....wht excitement i aspire to, right? I also haven't had an actual social life in over two years: that's right, people, grad school eats your soul. So the big magic "IF" questions right now are Should I strike while the iron of my career is hot? (It's almost crazy how fast things are moving for me), or do I just say no and seek a little peace. Which decision will I regret in the long run? Who knows. Suffice it to say, I'm really looking forward to the Holidays. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I hope you are keeping well. | | |
| | Back To School This coming week is orientation week and then we're back to classes. I'll be in my FINAL year (thunderous applause and fanfare) Yay! My official last day of class in the Spring is April 28th, at which time I'll OFFICIALLY be a MASTER. Heehee. This semester should be pretty great. I'M TEACHING!! It's not a lame lab, either. It's a lecture course called 'Creative Design' that meets three days a week. Unfortunately, it's an 8am class, but beggars can't be choosers, right? Additionally, I am taking a light course load: Desgning for Film and Television, my final requred class to get my Museum Studies Certification, and a random elective to be named later. I'll still be working in the shop as part of my assistantship, as well. My thesis show is Alice in Wonderland at Tallahassee Community College. I might also be doing Big River for them in the Spring. I've been remiss in posting my work for you guys, but I will be forced to do better this year because an online portfolio is part of my thesis submission :) Anyway, all is well for now and I'm gearing up. Hope to hear from some of you as to what you're up to.... |

| so, my poor boss had a family emergency and had to head to ft. lauderdale for the rest of the week. i feel terrible for her. HOWEVER, i've only worked here for 12 total hours (until yesterday) and because i'm her only employee, i got trained to manage the entire store solo in 4 HOURS (no i'm not kidding. everything from running lottery reports to credit batch outs to Zout at the end of the day plus pricing, inventory...etc). needless to say, the expression 'thrown to the wolves' comes to mind along with 'sink or swim' in it's most literal way. :) luckily, i've worked retail before and because of that, get the concept of all of this stuff, but anyone who's ever worked retail knows that EVERY store (especially small local ones) does everything in their own odd way. *sigh* i took copius notes and tried to get it all. We'll see. At least i'm here and she didn't have to close the shop down. here's the biggie, though. i have to be here at 6:45am to stock and sort the bazillion newspapers we carry and then open the door at 7:00am. We don't close until 5pm and then i have however many deliveries to do. that makes for a VERY LONG day, folks. better yet, no official breaks. that's right, i get to take the phone with me to the bathroom and order in for lunch. joy! :) now i know i'm getting more hours and so a bigger check and i'm also happy to be able to help Jenny out, but *pout* 10 hour days or longer starting at 5:25? sad. | | |
| today is my last day at the Pepper. YAY!!!!! I also started a new part time job this week at a gift shop called 'Imagine That.' it's exactly as frou frou as it sounds. lol. but hey, at least it's a little extra cash. also, i'm terrible at keeping this thing updated because i also 'myspace' so then i forget to 'xanga.' i know, i know, excuses are like buttholes. anyway, i'm too scattered to write anymore just now. hope you're all keeping well!! | | |
| basically, just know that i'll be posting some politicalish blogs for the next several months. today, i have just a few things to say: 1) While I realize that the Sopranos was a tantelizing show and that spoofing it to become the most downloaded fully clothed woman online was a cute idea, and I also appreciate the man hours behind Hillary's 'vote for my campaign song' thing, I would like for my next president to be a little less concerned with pop-culture and more concerned with things like, oh, I don't know.... Iraq, Stem Cell, Abortion Deficit, Civil Liberties, Healthcare, Education, Taxes, Gun Control, .......you know, little things like that. Call me crazy. 2) I haven't actually picked a canidate to support yet, but I will tell you this: suprisingly, of all of the Democratic candidates, I'm findig myself liking and repecting Joe Biden more and more. 3) John McCain....quit being such a pompous ass. Oh, and stop playing both sides on Stem Cell and abortion. 4) Fred Thompson, throw your hat in the ring or don't. Seriously. 5) Obama: wow. We'll have plenty to talk about later, but for today, here's this little gem for you. People in farm country carry knives. It happens. And way to turn a little 'possible threat let's check into it' situation into a RED ALERT 911 THREAT IS EMINENT tabloid worthy situation. Nothing says 'I'm important' more than an assassination attempt, huh? 6) John Edwards, you are NOT the new JFK. And your non-profit better be SQUEAKY clean. SQUEAKY. Anyway, more to come later. Hope everyone had a great 4th | | |
